Development & Milestones - Toddler Tales
What to expect at each age and when to talk to a doctor about development.
Frequently asked questions
My child isn't walking yet. Should I worry?
Children develop at their own pace, and walking alone usually happens between about 9 and 18 months. If your child is not walking by 18 months, or you are worried about any area of development, talk to your pediatrician - early check-ins lead to early support.
When do babies usually say their first words?
Most babies say their first real words around 12 months, with a steady growth of words through the second year. If your child is not using any words by about 18 months, or is losing words they once had, talk to your pediatrician.
What can I do to support my child's development at home?
Talk, read, and play with your child every day. Respond to their sounds and words, give them safe space to move, and follow their interests. Everyday interactions are the most powerful development support there is.
